Packers blockbuster proposal adds Dolphins’ $72 million veteran labeled a ‘risk’

The Packers are already thin at the cornerback position, even though their current starters are considered reliable. However, if an injury occurs—as is often the case in the NFL—the depth behind them is concerning. The situation became even more pressing after the Packers chose not to offer veteran CB Jaire Alexander any guaranteed money in a contract extension, leading to a failed agreement and his eventual release.

“To not have any guarantees in there was where we had the issue. It wasn’t actually the dollar amount, it was the no guaranteed money,” his father said. “It’s kind of insulting to come to a two-time All-Pro, and somebody who gave blood, sweat, and tears to you, and to not have any guarantees.”

With the cornerback room now thin and Green Bay in need of reinforcements, a trade could be on the table. One bold idea gaining traction is a potential deal for Jalen Ramsey.

“The Packers’ best option is the boldest they can make: a trade for Jalen Ramsey. It’s a risk, as Ramsey is 30 years old and would bring his massive contract to Green Bay, but he is still a top-tier cornerback who would immediately upgrade the secondary for a team with Super Bowl dreams,” wrote Lombardi Ave’s Freddie Boston.

Ramsey was expected to be traded by now, but he remains available. A major reason for the delay is the size of his contract, which includes $24 million guaranteed this season alone. That’s a steep price, but the Packers could benefit greatly from both his on-field performance and veteran leadership.

Recently, ESPN’s Adam Schefter gave an update on when a trade might finally happen.

“Jalen Ramsey will get traded. It’ll be, I would expect before the start of training camp. We’ll see how it shakes out, where he goes,” Schefter said.

While the Packers clearly need more depth at cornerback, what they need even more is a player who can maintain a high level of performance week in and week out. Replacing Alexander with Ramsey would be a massive move—and one that wouldn’t skip a beat.
