Rams’ Sean McVay reveals complexities keeping them from acquiring Dolphins’ $72 million star

The Dolphins have been searching for a trade partner for Jalen Ramsey for a couple of months now, but so far, nothing has materialized. While several teams are interested and willing to make a deal, the Dolphins have yet to pull the trigger.

A likely destination for Ramsey appears to be Los Angeles, where the Rams are based—the team with which he won a Super Bowl. It also seems that head coach Sean McVay remains high on his former player.

“He is a total stud, and you look at, obviously he has continued to play at a really high level. He and I have kept in great touch even since we ended up trading him to Miami. Special competitor, great person, great father,” McVay said.

The Rams have consistently preferred Ramsey as their choice if they were to trade for a cornerback this offseason, and that still holds true. In fact, McVay recently revealed what’s holding them back from making a move right now.

“Usually, those are scenarios and situations that you have to have plans in place prior to executing some of the decisions that have occurred. Definitely don’t want to rule anything out because we’re always open-minded to onboarding and acquiring quality players and people like him if we’re able to do that, but there would be some obstacles that are real that are in the place of maybe preventing that from occurring,” McVay said.

“What is his salary? And are we able to take that on just based on our current situation when you onboard a player that’s earned the right to be paid where he’s at? Those are things that you’re usually planning months in advance and obviously, it was unforeseen that he would become available,” he added.

It’s clear that this potential trade is complicated, but much of it also depends on what the Dolphins want in return.

“And if you do execute a trade, what are they looking for in return? Is there a conversation to be had in terms of a portion of that contract that they pay? Are they interested in players or draft capital? So there’s a lot of layers to that,” McVay stated.
