New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields set for fantasy football stardom

The New York Jets made a bold move by signing quarterback Justin Fields to a two-year, $40 million deal with $30 million guaranteed. He comes to New York after spending most of last season as the backup quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Yet, the Jets saw enough from Fields to pay him a lucrative contract and give him the starting role. What is most interesting about Fields heading into 2025 is his fantasy football outlook. Back in a starting role, he has the potential to be a QB1 in fantasy this year.

When Fields has been the full-time starter during his career, he has shined as a fantasy quarterback. Most of that has to do with his rushing ability; in the two seasons where he started 13 or more games, he rushed for at least 657 yards and four touchdowns. His best rushing season came in 2022 when he scorched the league for 1,143 yards and eight touchdowns. That same season, Fields finished ninth in NFL MVP voting.

The new coaching staff in New York, led by Aaron Glenn, should get the best out of Fields. Glenn hired Detroit Lions passing game coordinator Tanner Engstrand to be the offensive coordinator, and he is expected to bring an exciting offense with him. The Jets should build their offense around Fields and his rushing ability, which will help optimize his fantasy value.

According to Derek Brown, Fields has been a top-10 fantasy quarterback in each of the last three full seasons he has started. With weapons like Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson for Fields to utilize, he should be in for another successful fantasy season and should be targeted as a low-end QB1 during drafts. If he can develop more as a passer, his ceiling is a top-5 fantasy QB.
