Ryan Garcia has many doubters about his ability to return to the fighter he once was after his embarrassing loss to Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero last May. Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs) posted on social media yesterday, saying he’s ready to “come back” and “show” fans that he can turn things around in his career.
Is Ryan Garcia’s Career Over?
People don’t believe Garcia, and they feel that he can’t beat anyone without the help of PEDs, which would enable him to raise his game from a marginal performer to Superman. He certainly looked like a superhero, beating the living daylights out of Devin Haney last year. They feel it’s over for Ryan, and it’s all downhill from here, returning to the mediocrity from whence he came.
Garcia mentioned in a post on X that he was dealing with alcoholism and “bipolar depression” in the year that he’d been out of the ring leading up to his loss to Rolly Romero at Times Square in New York. Ryan’s post read like someone using excuses to deflect criticism rather than owning his defeat.
PEDs: Key to Garcia’s Power?
Fans don’t believe it was the liquor or the bipolar depression for the way Garcia lost. They feel it was a lack of PEDs in him to increase his power and aggression to levels above his normal capacity. Some of them believe that Ryan has been getting extra help with PEDs all along. Once he didn’t have it in his system, he was dominated by what they feel is one of the worst fighters in boxing, Rolly.
If Ryan can’t bring back the form he had in his win over Haney, he might as well retire, because he’s going to get beaten by almost everybody in the top tier of the welterweight division.
Losing to Rolly was bad. If Ryan can find a time machine to bring back the person he was when he wiped the deck with Devin Haney, he might have a chance of doing something at 147. But what Garcia showed in his loss to Romero, he’ll be food for virtually everybody at welterweight in the top 15.
Garcia Needs New Team, Active
What was troubling in Ryan’s performance against Rolly is that he wasn’t throwing any punches. He stopped fighting after being dropped in the second round and played it safe the remainder of the fight.
“People have to remember that boxing ain’t for the weak. I came off a year of being an alcoholic, suffering from bipolar depression disorder. I’m fine with the judgment, but I’m ready to come back and show you that you can come back from anything,” said Ryan Garcia on X.
Ryan needs to return to a simple life, moving out of his giant mansion in the hills, and live like a fighter who hasn’t made millions in the sport. Get a new training team, and focus on working and staying active. He can’t afford to sit for a year in between fights.
