Not only does Sam Reinhart have a lethal shot — he also has pretty impeccable timing, too.
The Panthers forward has long been considered an explosive scorer, collecting 39 strikes during the regular season and 57 a year ago. On Tuesday, Reinhart gave viewers a window into his prolific ways, as the 29-year-old etched himself in Stanley Cup history, collecting four goals as Florida romped the Oilers 5-1 to secure its second straight title.
Reinhart’s performance was the culmination of a wondrous all-around team display. Sergei Bobrovsky manned the cage with aplomb, making 29 saves, while Carter Verhaeghe and Aleksander Barkov recorded multi-point games.
But Reinhart was the star of the show. He started the matchup with a flourish, slaloming past two defenders before whipping a shot past Stuart Skinner’s grasp.
Over the ensuing two periods, the puck routinely found Reinhart’s stick — or skate. He nabbed his second after Barkov fired the puck off of his foot. Then came his last two scores, both occurring in the third period while Skinner was sitting on the bench.
It was as unusual a four-goal game as one has seen in the postseason, but all the finishes counted the same. Reinhart became the first player since Rocket Richard to record a four-goal game in the Stanley Cup Final.
