Steelers free agent pitch adds starting veteran receiver not named Amari Cooper or Keenan Allen

The Pittsburgh Steelers must address the wide receiver position before the 2025 season.

The team has yet to replace George Pickens since trading the young receiver to the Dallas Cowboys, and the Steelers don’t have another reliable receiving option on the boundary to take some pressure off DK Metcalf.

Though many believe the Steelers could sign veterans Amari Cooper or Keenan Allen to address the need, CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin also believes general manager Omar Khan could opt to go a different route and instead sign Nelson Agholor.

“Gone are the days of Agholor warranting a starting gig at the NFL level. Still, he’s shown flash as a downfield threat in multiple stops and systems, and his versatility lining up both inside and outside might be of value,” Benjamin wrote.

Agholor could serve as a low-end WR3 or quality depth piece, but he can’t be Pittsburgh’s No.2 receiver.

The 32-year-old hasn’t posted over 400 yards in a season since 2021, and though he was productive in 2020 when given a sizeable role with the Las Vegas Raiders, Agholor doesn’t have the same burst anymore.

He will be cheap to sign and would play a key depth role, but Agholor wouldn’t solve the Steelers’ biggest problems at receiver.
