Westlife star Nicky Byrne makes incredible Soccer Aid double save… then somehow avoids red card moments later

WESTLIFE star Nicky Byrne made a sensational double save to deny Jermain Defoe and Steven Bartlett at Soccer Aid.

But just moments later the Irishman could have been sent off for a clear handball.

The Irishman, 46, came on for former Manchester United stopper Edwin van der Sar between the sticks at half-time.

And the hitmaker was immediately called into action.

England star Aaron Lennon rolled back the years to race down the right flank before squaring for former Tottenham team-mate Defoe.

The legendary striker looked certain to score… only to be denied by Byrne’s legs.

Bartlett, 32, pounced on the rebound, but Byrne sprang up to deny the entrepreneur.

Barely a minute later, Defoe had another chance to score – sparking a moment of controversy.

With Byrne having raced miles off his line, Defoe looked to flick the ball beyond the stopper.

The Westlife star instinctively blocked the ball with his arm – sparking complaints from the England front man.

Prem ref Rebecca Welch immediately blew her whistle but only brandished a yellow card, much to Byrne’s relief.

England led 2-0 at the time courtesy of first-half goals by Wayne Rooney and Toni Duggan.

Tony Bellew forced off FIVE MINUTES into Soccer Aid and helped down Old Trafford tunnel

Byrne’s clean sheet would soon be dirtied, with Defoe finally beating him at the back post for 3-0.

The Westlife has pedigree as a goalkeeper, having won the FA Youth Cup with Leeds in 1997 before hanging up his gloves to focus on being a singer.

The Rest of the World did begin to stage a fight back, however, as Defoe’s former Spurs pal Robbie Keane teed up Carlos Tevez to score.

Tevez then scored another following a sensational solo run, leaving Phil Jagielka trailing in his wake.

England quickly restored their two-goal advantage, with livewire Lennon setting up clinical Defoe to score the Three Lions’ fourth.

Man Utd boo-boy Tevez then completed his hat-trick at the other end.

The Argentine caught England stopper Paddy McGuinness, on for Joe Hart at half-time, out with a cheeky free-kick.

Amazingly Tevez then grabbed a FOURTH to equalise, slaloming past Angry Ginge before slotting past McGuinness.

Rapper Big Zuu scored a stunning 84th minute effort to give the Rest of the World a priceless lead.

Lennon raced away looking for an equaliser in the last minute… only for match-winner Tevez to cynically bring him down – with the final whistle going moments after the former forward was booked.
