Boxing Results: Hitchins KOs Kambosos Jr.; Cruz Stops Mishiro in Lightweight Eliminator Bout

IBF World Super Lightweight champion Richardson Hitchins (20-0, 8 KOs) stopped former IBF, WBA, WBO Lightweight champion George ‘Ferocious’ Kambosos, Jr. (22-4, 10 KOs) in the final minute of the eighth round on Saturday night at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York.  The fight was halted at 2:33 of the eighth round of a scheduled 12 rounds.

In the first three rounds, Kambosos was the aggressor, trying to get inside with the jab, getting countered by Hitchins. In the fourth round, Kambosos had a welt under his fight eye from the jabs of Hitchins. In the fifth round, Hitchins was outlanding Kambosos throughout the round.

In the sixth round’s midway point, Kambosos drew blood from the mouth of Hitchins. In the seventh round it was all Hitchins until the final seconds when the tough Kambosos landed several punches to the chin of Hitchins. In the eighth round’s final minute, a left hook from Hitchins to the body hurt Kambosos, dropping him with forty seconds to go. Referee Michael Griffin called a halt.

In the chief support match, 2020 Olympic Gold Medalist and current IBF International lightweight champion Andy Cruz (6-0, 3 KOs) impressed in stopping tough Japanese lightweight champ Hirori Mishiro (17-2-1, 6 KOs) at 1:13 of the fifth round of a scheduled 12 rounds in an IBF lightweight eliminator bout.

In the first round, they mostly exchanged jabs with Mishiro, the aggressor for the most part. He landed a solid right in the final seconds to the jaw of Cruz. In the second round, Cruz drew blood from the mouth of Mishiro early in the round.

In the third round, Cruz scored a knockdown with a flurry of punches to the head of Mishiro for an 8-count from referee Eric Dali. In the final seconds of the round, Cruz dropped Mishiro again with several punches to the head at the bell for an 8-count.

In the fourth round, midway, Cruz landed ten unanswered punches. Mishiro kept coming back throughout the fight. The ring physician checked Mishiro during the round. In the fifth round, Cruz landed a swarm of punches, almost scoring a knockdown, when referee Dali wisely called a halt. Cruz is now being trained in Philadelphia by ‘Bozy’ Ennis.

Super welterweight southpaw 2024 Olympian Nishant ‘The Devistator’ Dev (2-0, 1 KO) defeated Josue ‘Venum’ Silva (3-2, 1 KOs) by a six-round unanimous decision.

In the first three rounds, Dev dominated. In the fourth round, Dev hurt Silva with body shots. In the fifth round of the game, Silva hung in there against the taller 4 Dev, who took another round.

In the sixth and final round, Dev won another round against the tough Silva.

The scores were 60-54, 60-54. David Fields was the referee.

Super featherweight southpaw Zaquin ‘Zaybop’ Moses (4-0, 3 KOs) stopped Carl ‘The Cyclone’ Rogers (3-3) at 1:51 of the fourth and final round.

In the second round, Moses hurt Rogers with a left hook to the body a minute into the round. Rogers turned southpaw midway. In the third round, Moses landed half a dozen unanswered punches before going down for an 8-count from Referee Eric Dali. In the fourth and final round Moses dropped Rogers with half a dozen punches. Upon rising, Moses was all over him, landing four punches until Referee Dali called a halt.

In a late-scheduled bout, 2024 Heavyweight Olympian Teremoana ’Tevero’ Teremoana (8-0, 8 KOs) knocked out Aleem ‘Hammer’ Whitfield (9-1,  KOs) at 2:28 of the first round of a scheduled 6.

In the first round, Whitfield returned after nine years off, scoring a pair of wins, giving up 6” to Teremoana, who dominated, and in the final minute landed four punches to the head, dropping Whitfield in the corner, causing Referee Fields to call a halt.

Super bantamweight Adam ‘The Mac’ Maca (1-0, 1 KO) knocked out Rafael ‘El Terrible’ Castillo (2-7, 1 KO) at 1:29 of the second round of a scheduled 4.

In the first round, Maca dominated for the most part, finishing the round throwing Castillo without a warning from Referee Arthur Mercante, Jr. In the second round, Maca landed three left hooks to the body midway point with several more punches before Referee Mercante waved off the bout.
