Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel has hilarious reaction to Tyreek Hill, Noah Lyles drama

In what is turning out to be potentially the most noteworthy rivalry in track and field since Usain Bolt was seemingly going toe to toe with the laws of physics on a race by race basis during the prime of his racing career, the feud between Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill and 2024 Olympic Gold Medalist Noah Lyles added another layer on Friday afternoon.

Hill, who is 31 years old and continues to rehab after undergoing wrist surgery in May, competed in a 100 meter dash at the Last Chance Sprint Series on Friday in California and posted an impressive time of 10.15 seconds in his first official race since 2014. While 10.14 seconds wouldn’t have beaten Lyles’ time of 9.78 seconds at the Paris Olympics, Hill still took the opportunity to call out the outspoken Olympian after the race had concluded.

Back in Miami, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel was asked about the race, and in typical Mike McDaniel fashion, offered a rather candid and humorous response to the result of the race and the ongoing feud.

“If he wants to run in a straight line against someone and utilize football training, sweet,” McDaniel said on Friday, per Dante Collinelli of Sports Illustrated. “Don’t know who he’s racing. I’m sure they’re fast, and whether he wins or loses, I won’t care. But the good news is we’re locked in on Dolphins football, and no one’s told me about the race, which means their focus is where it should be, which is on today’s practice.”

McDaniel seems pretty certain that despite the race out on the west coast and the escalation of his feud with Noah Lyles, Hill’s primary focus remains on the Miami Dolphins.

“He’s trying to get me to go against the process and short-change when he’s supposed to catch footballs, but we’re being very diligent. He’s pitching to do more and more, which is good. He’s been active in the off-season program, and all while not catching footballs.”

No footballs were involved in the race on Friday, and if Hill and Lyles ever go head to head, it won’t be on the gridiron.
