Matthaus, 64, has been spotted at numerous public outings with Instagram model Theresa Sommer, 26.
The 26-year-old accompanied the Bayern Munich icon to a recent celebrity ski race in Ischgl, Austria.
Matthus told A2 Television: “We came for skiing, and the rest is a private matter.”
Sommer has also been snapped watching the Nations League final in Munich with the ex-footballer.
The model studied economics at King’s College in London and then Durham University, according to The Mail.
It is unknown if the pair’s relationship is platonic or romantic.
Matthaus did not return comment when approached by German publication BILD.
The former Ballon d’Or winner has been married five times since tying the knot with first wife Silvia in 1981, before divorcing in 1992.
He married Swiss model and TV presenter Lolita Morena two years later and had a son.
But the marriage lasted just five years with the former Miss Universe contestant.
His next relationship came after Matthaus had hung up his boots and headed into management.
The German met Marijana Colic during his coaching spell with Partizan in Belgrade.
They married in 2003 but filed for a messy divorce six years down the line.
In December 2008, Matthaus wed 21-year-old Ukrainian model Kristina Liliana Chudinova in Las Vegas.
