Blockbuster NHL trade idea sends Jason Robertson to Vegas

Could the Dallas Stars really trade forward Jason Robertson?

It sounds ludicrous, especially coming off another Western Conference Finals appearance, but B/R Open Ice reported that Robertson could be on the trade market this offseason.

Should the Stars look to clear up cap space, Robertson, who is set to make $7.75 million this year before becoming a restricted free agent, would garner significant league-wide interest.

One team that is never afraid to push their cards in and pull off a seismic deal is the Vegas Golden Knights. Here is what that trade could look like:

Golden Knights receive: F Jason Robertson

Stars receive: F Pavel Dorofeyev, D Brayden McNabb, 2027 1st Round Pick

Dorofeyev, a 25-year-old winger, had his breakout campaign with 35 goals and 17 assists as a top-six forward for Vegas. He is not quite Robertson offensively or defensively, but would fit in seamlessly with this Dallas squad that loves puck possession and would benefit from another excellent shooter.

He also has one year left on his $1.835 million contract and would help clarify the Stars’ cap situation.

McNabb may be getting older, but he was still a ruthless defensive defenseman in his age-34 season. At 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, he plays the heavy game necessary for playoff success. McNabb also has three years remaining on his $3.65 million contract and could pair with either Miro Heiskanen or Thomas Harley in a top-four pairing.

Finally, Vegas may be reluctant to sacrifice yet another first-rounder, considering they already moved their next two first-round picks.

However, Robertson, who has 151 goals and 197 assists over the last four seasons and 320 games, is a durable game-changer up front who could propel the Golden Knights back into the Stanley Cup conversation.
