The Indianapolis Colts have a new quarterback.
With Anthony Richardson battling an injury to his throwing shoulder, Indy chose to bring in another talented arm to join the fray.
On Tuesday, the Colts brought Desmond Ridder in on a tryout basis at minicamp, per Pro Football Talk.
Ridder’s NFL story is a curious one.
He’s still just 25, and he was a third-round pick of the Falcons in 2022.
Ridder started almost the whole 2023 season for Atlanta.
Before the 2024 season, though, the Cardinals acquired Ridder in a trade and put him on the practice squad. That allowed the Raiders to sign him to their active roster when they dealt with injuries midseason, and Ridder ended up starting one game for Las Vegas.

Ridder has completed 63.6 percent of his NFL passes for 4,002 yards. He has 16 passing TDs and 14 INTs.
A chance with the Broncos earlier this offseason fell through, so now Ridder gets this opportunity instead.
It won’t be easy for him to break through, given that Daniel Jones and Riley Leonard are pretty much assured of roster spots along with Richardson.
But if Ridder shows well for himself, it could give him a chance to gain a roster spot with the Colts or another team down the road. He still seems to have just a bit of untapped potential.
