Panthers’ Brad Marchand sets incredible NHL record in Stanley Cup Finals

The Florida Panthers made a necessarily aggressive move at the NHL trade deadline to acquire Brad Marchand from the struggling Boston Bruins.

Holy cow, has that decision paid off or what?

Marchand scored the Panthers’ last two goals of their Game 2 Stanley Cup Finals win over the Oilers, including the overtime game-ender. And then he opened the scoring of Monday night’s Game 3.

In the process, Marchand made history.

He’s the oldest player ever to score in each of the first three games of a Stanley Cup Finals series, according to the NHL.

Marchand, 37, breaks 35-year old Frank Mahovlich’s mark with the 1973 Canadiens.

The long-time Bruins forward is fourth among active NHL players in both playoff goals and playoff points.

With 11 career Stanley Cup Finals goals after his first period marker on Monday, Marchand has scored more goals in the championship round than any other active player.

Marchand has been rejuvenated by his trade to Florida. And now the Panthers are tracking toward becoming back-to-back champions because the wily veteran has still got game.
