Sergio Mora: Keyshawn Davis Needs Apology Tour After Weight Miss & Scuffle

Sergio Mora says Keyshawn Davis needs to “go on an apology tour” for missing weight and being involved in a scuffle with Nahir Albright last Saturday. His fight against Edwin De Los Santos was subsequently canceled, and cost Top Rank a lot of money.

Davis Misses Weight, Title Stripped

Keyshawn was stripped of his WBO lightweight title for coming 4.3 lbs over the 135-lb limit. Mora suspects that he never intended to make weight because that was far too high for it to be an accident.

Some fans asked for refunds because they had purchased tickets to watch Keyshawn defend his WBO lightweight title against De Los Santos in the main event. Once he was off the card, fans wanted their money back.

“Losing your title on the scale when you’re 4 lbs overweight. You didn’t even try. He let down his promoter, his fans, his family, and ultimately himself because he won a championship and lost a championship,” said Sergio Mora to Chris Mannix’s YouTube channel about Keyshawn Davis missing weight by 4.3 pounds last Friday for his canceled fight against Edwin De Los Santos.

What made it look intentional on Keyshawn’s part was him saying that he had already planned on vacating his WBO 135-lb title after his fight against De Los Santos. He said it was going to be his last fight at lightweight. When he admitted that, it became obvious that he had never intended to make weight because he had no reason to. He was moving up. In other words, it didn’t matter if he lost his WBO title.

Mora Demands Apology Tour

“It’s so irresponsible, and if it happened once, it’s going to happen again. He needs to go on an apology tour. Keyshawn Davis needs to do a lot because he had everything given to him to be the next star, and he just slapped everyone in the face.”

If Keyshawn didn’t apologize to Denys Berinchyk for accusing him of sending watermelons and bananas to his hotel room, he’s not likely to admit wrong and go on an apology tour for the scuffle with Albright and missing weight.

“Before this weekend, Keyshawn’s stock was at it’s peak. He was ascending. His reputation is in tatters,” said Mannix. “Not making weight, not seeming to care about making the weight, that was bad. Then you had the incident after the fight where this guy Nahir Albright beats your brother, and you’re in the locker room.”

I wouldn’t say Davis’ stock was necessarily at its peak last Saturday, because he’d made himself look bad before the Denys Berinchyk fight when he accused him without proof of sending a box of bananas and watermelons to his hotel room. Keyshawn played the race card, getting in Berinchyk’s face during the final press conference to accuse him. It made him look bad because anyone could have sent the box, and he just automatically assumed it was him.

Keyshawn’s Locker Room Incident

“Don’t be in this guy’s locker room. Don’t be approaching him after a fight like this. He lost. It was a majority decision, but he lost. Don’t be going after the guy that beat him in that manner. Top Rank is furious with Keyshawn because they’re the ones that got to pay out Edwin De Los Santos.”

Keyshawn’s enablers, who say he never touched Albright and there’s no proof of assault, can’t explain why he entered his locker room. Why do you do that? It makes him look guilty that he was in Albright’s locker room because he shouldn’t have been there. He wasn’t the one who got beaten by him last Saturday night.

“They’ve got to pay him the six figures he was going to get for that fight with nothing to show for it. Now, you’ve got Keyshawn sinking even lower, acting like a fool after the fight,” said Chris.

Top Rank should have known two years ago that they were going to have a problem with Keyshawn when he tested positive for marijuana, resulting in his win over Nahir Albright being changed to a no-decision. In the aftermath, Davis acted like a victim, like he’d been wronged, and said he was going to buy a house.

His lack of interest in fighting Andy Cruz was another red flag. For Keyshawn to prefer fighting guys like Denys Berinchyk, Gustavo Lemos, and Miguel Maduenos rather than Cruz suggests that he wasn’t willing to take risks. He wanted to be protected.
