Usyk on Dubois’ Low Blow Complaints: A Glimpse into a Troubled Mind?

Usyk on Dubois’ Low Blow Complaints: A Glimpse into a Troubled Mind?

Oleksandr Usyk says he’s not annoyed by Daniel Dubois complaining about the no-call on the fifth-round knockdown he scored in their first fight in 2023 in Wroclaw, Poland. Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) views it as “trash talk” by Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs) because it was a “dirty punch” by him that the referee rightly ruled as a low blow.

Next month, WBA, WBC, and WBO heavyweight champion Usyk and IBF champ Dubois will meet in a rematch for the undisputed championship on July 19th at Wembley Stadium in London. The event will be shown live on DAZN PPV for $59.99 in the U.S. and £24.99 in the UK.

Usyk Amused By Dubois’ Fixation

Usyk thinks it’s amusing that Dubois is still discussing this two years later. That kind of behavior is alien to Oleksandr, who stays in the present. The way Dubois continues to harp about the low blow episode suggests that the thoughts are intrusive. The fans aren’t buying into the idea that he was robbed of a victory last time. So, he’s wasting his time still complaining.

“It doesn’t frustrate me. It’s rubbish. It’s trash talk,” said Oleksandr Usyk to Ring Magazine about Daniel Dubois complaining about the low blow no-call in their first fight in 2023. “For me, it doesn’t matter, because I know it was a dirty punch. It’s in the past. For me, it’s in the present.”

Dubois Trapped In The Past

For Dubois to still be ruminating on the past, he’s signalling that he’s trapped in the past and can’t move on like an older person. Anyone can see that it was a low blow, and, strangely, Daniel still can’t process the event to see the full picture after two years. What he should be doing is thinking about what happened afterward, where he fell apart and quit in the ninth.

Dubois, 27, has won his last three fights since his ninth-round TKO loss to Usyk, beating Anthony Joshua, Filip Hrgovic, and Jarrell Miller. Usyk’s resume is more impressive, as he has beaten Tyson Fury twice, forcing him into retirement.
