Cam Heyward calls out Steelers fan over silly protest of Aaron Rodgers signing

While Aaron Rodgers was clearly the best option the Pittsburgh Steelers had for their starting quarterback job, some fans are not happy he’s in the Steel City.

Rodgers has been quite controversial player during his NFL career, and especially in the last five years. We’re not going to get into the reasons why that’s the case, but you already know if you haven’t been living under a rock.

One Steelers fan had an odd way of showing his disdain for the Rodgers signing. In a video posted to social media, the fan burned a Minkah Fitzpatrick jersey while also saying the following:

“Well, today, June 5, 2025, I’ll never be a Steelers fan again,” the fan said with his jersey on fire. “Autographed Minkah [Fitzpatrick] jersey — I’m burning all my Steelers stuff. Yinz decide to pick up Aaron Rodgers — I can’t do this anymore.

“You kill us. You keep killing us,” he added. “You let go of George Pickens, you know what I mean? You let go of Justin Fields, he had potential to be something. It’s just — it’s crazy. It’s sad. Again, today is my last day being a Steelers fan. So, thank you [to the Rooney family]. Thank you [Mike] Tomlin. He really did it. Bye bye.”

Having an issue with the Rodgers signing while simultaneously ignoring that Pickens was a total cancer is wild, but we digress.

After that video went viral, Steelers defensive lineman Cam Heyward made some very valid points for why it was silly for the fan to do what he did.

“Thoughts,” he said. “First off, why Minkah’s jersey? That’s bonkers. Second, why burn when there plenty people that need clothes? Third, you are going to regret it!!”

We don’t think the fan had anything against Fitzpatrick specifically and was simply burning the safety’s jersey as a symbolic showing of his anger at the Steelers.

It’s still over the top. Rodgers hasn’t even played a single game with the Steelers and could very well be the missing piece to get the team over the hump.

If that happens, we’d bet that fan will forget all about his hatred of Rodgers and will be wearing and not burning a Steelers jersey. And, who knows, he might even buy a Rodgers jersey, too!

It’s easy to make these statements now when real NFL football is still three months away, but we tend to believe he’ll cool off once September rolls around and will be watching Pittsburgh football come Week 1.
