Packers QB Jordan Love reveals desire for Week 8 matchup with Aaron Rodgers, Steelers

Before Jordan Love inherited the keys to the castle in Green Bay, he found himself in a somewhat similar position as his predecessor was once in sixteen years earlier. Love, a 1st round pick of the Packers in the 2020 NFL Draft, joined a franchise which already had a multiple-time MVP and former Super Bowl champion under center. But Love’s experience as the quarterback-in-waiting in Green Bay was different than newly signed Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ was.

While Brett Favre made it clear he had no interest in being a mentor for Aaron Rodgers, Rodgers on the other hand, despite all of his PR snafu’s and prickly personality quirks, did not want to approach his partnership with Jordan Love the same way. Even as Rodgers publicly and consistently lobbied for more help in Green Bay in his final few seasons with the team, he continued to keep Love safely under his wing, setting his understudy up for success once it finally became his turn.

And all these years later, Jordan Love still speaks fondly regarding how “A-Rod” mentored him in their three seasons together.

“In my time with A-Rod, we had a great relationship. It was awesome being in the same room with him, being able to learn. He was amazing with everything,” Love said on Friday at the American Family Insurance Championship at TPC Wisconsin, per Jason Wilde of Channel 3000. “I definitely appreciate the way he handled everything on the outside with obviously him leaving and me taking over, and he’s been very supportive of me.”

Whether there is bitterness or not, now that Rodgers and the Steelers finally agreed to a one-year deal, one of the most intriguing matchups on the 2025 NFL schedule is a Week 8 showdown between the Packers and Steelers at Lambeau Field in front of a primetime audience on Sunday Night Football.

It goes without saying that Love’s primary goal for that game will be defeating his former mentor, thus ensuring Rodgers doesn’t become the sixth quarterback in NFL history to have scored a win over all 32 teams in the league. But Love did voice one other desire for his first ever showdown against Aaron Rodgers.

“It’s going to be fun. It’s going to be awesome. I’m excited for it,” Love said. “I can’t wait to be on different sides, meeting up, and I know we’ll talk pre-game, things like that. And hopefully we can exchange jerseys after.”

Perhaps it goes without saying, but Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre never came together for this post-game photo op.
