‘Chiseled freak’ Roman Wilson getting ‘legit WR2’ buzz ahead of 2nd Steelers season

‘Chiseled freak’ Roman Wilson getting ‘legit WR2’ buzz ahead of 2nd Steelers season

The Roman Wilson hype train is boarding and ready to leave the station.

The Pittsburgh Steelers 2024 third-round pick had a disastrous rookie campaign that was marred by injury and only saw him play five snaps on offense.

But there is no shortage of hype building around the Michigan product, who has undergone a body transformation ahead of his second season in the NFL.

Wilson’s work ethic has also been lauded, which is another good sign for his future.

“Roman Wilson looks like a chiseled freak this year after missing most of last year,” Steelers beat reporter Mark Kaboly said on X. “He is always one of the last ones off the field after practice, so the desire is there… He needs to go into camp on that moving train, and I think he will be just fine. Legit WR2? Possible.”

This is all great news for a Steelers team that desperately needs a wide receiver to step up in the wake of the George Pickens trade, which has left Pittsburgh in the same spot it was last season.

But there’s still a long way to go before we’re going to believe Wilson can step up, especially as the No. 2 receiver behind DK Metcalf.

“My goals for the season are to get better every single day,” he told Mike DeFabo of The Athletic. “Treat every day like it’s game day, every practice like it’s game day. Come prepared with questions to ask coaches after practice.

“Just be mentally, physically locked in every single day and just give them my all. Give it all I got every single day so I can get better the next day and be ready for whenever my time is,” Wilson added.

Wilson has to stay healthy and earn this stripes in training camp, and then he’s got to produce in actual games, something the jury is still very much out on.

That said, if you were to draw up all the signs of a player breaking out, Wilson has them.
