49ers’ Colin Kaepernick NFL comeback plans are trending, if you believe this rumor

49ers’ Colin Kaepernick NFL comeback plans are trending, if you believe this rumor

Colin Kaepernick is 37 years old and hasn’t thrown an NFL pass since January 2017.

But every so often, a rumor emerges about the former San Francisco 49ers star quarterback wanting to attempt an NFL comeback.

That’s the case again this week, with a viral tweet proclaiming, “Former #49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has let teams know he is staying in shape for an opportunity as #NFL teams have OTAs.”

Except, there’s no reported evidence of that news anywhere.

The only stories out there about a potential Kaepernick comeback reference that social media post, but prior to that posting, there was no new reporting on such a maneuver by Kaepernick.

There were whispers earlier this offseason that Kaepernick could come back, but it doesn’t seem like there’s anything new at this point.

A comeback seems pretty far-fetched, anyway.

Not only was Kaepernick essentially boxed out of the NFL after his national anthem kneeling protest, it’s been nearly a decade since he was in the league.

The last official NFL workout for Kaepernick was in 2022 for the Raiders. He also worked out for the Seahawks in 2020.

The Chargers offered Kaepernick a coaching job last season under his former head coach, Jim Harbaugh, but he didn’t take it.

Kaepernick was once one of the most exciting talents in the NFL, a dual-threat quarterback who led the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance.

He threw 72 touchdowns in six seasons and ran for another 13, all with the 49ers.

Kaepernick was a special talent, and then he was a polarizing figure.

But will he be a comeback kid? It seems highly unlikely.
