Cowboys’ Micah Parsons gets $50 million contract update in pursuit of record

Cowboys’ Micah Parsons gets million contract update in pursuit of record

The Dallas Cowboys keep waiting.

Micah Parsons is due for a massive contract extension. And there’s no real doubt that Jerry Jones will agree to a deal eventually.

But right now, the Cowboys and Parsons seemingly haven’t come close to an agreement.

It all feels a bit silly. It’s almost like delaying the inevitable.

If there were any doubts about keeping Parsons long-term, the delay would be more understandable.

Maybe the real concern is the exact dollar figure, and on Wednesday, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio wrote that Parsons is “arguably worth $50 million per year.”

That would shatter the record for a non-quarterback.

Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase currently holds that mark, at $40.25 million average.

Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett is the defensive record holder at an even $40 million per year.

Parsons, just four seasons into his NFL career, is nearly five years younger than Garrett, and the Browns star just signed that extension.

It stands to reason that Parsons should get much, much more.

The Cowboys already have giant contracts for Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb on the books, so the amount they can pay Parsons isn’t infinite.

But he deserves every single penny they can spare. And whenever the day comes that a deal actually gets signed, the number next to Parsons name will be a gargantuan, record-setting one.
