A new coach is taking over the Jets and he’s bringing new philosophies with him.
One shift could spell bad news for running back Breece Hall.
Aaron Glenn, former defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, is taking over at the helm for New York and he’s carrying some strategies from Dan Campbell’s offense with him.
Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated says running back Braelon Allen’s role in the Jets’ offense “could be pretty significant.”
Detroit has employed a committee approach in their backfield for years and Glenn seems to be moving in that direction with his new team.
It’s great news for Allen who is entering his second year after being drafted in the fourth round out of Wisconsin.
As a rookie he toted the ball 92 times for 334 yards and 2 touchdowns. The backfield was dominated by Hall who racked up 876 yards and 5 touchdowns on 209 carries.
If this report holds true, it could be much closer to a 50-50 split between the two rushers entering this season.
Hall is in the final year of his rookie contract. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent in 2026.
This shift could be preemptive to the Jets moving on from Hall after this year or it’s designed to save his legs for a long future in New York. Hall suffered a torn ACL in 2022 and struggled with an injury to the same knee to end last season.

Whether New York plans to move on from him or preserve his energy, it’s bad news for the running back entering a contract season. Allen showed burst and pass-catching ability in his rookie year and proved he can be a threat to Hall’s touches.
With a new head coach in the building anything is on the table and this early report shows Glenn is looking to make a drastic shift to the backfield.
