Price tag for Jets’ Sauce Gardner revealed

Price tag for Jets’ Sauce Gardner revealed

Sauce Gardner is eligible to sign a contract extension with the New York Jets.

So is Garrett Wilson, so the Jets may have to hand out the bag to both a star cornerback and wide receiver in the near future.

Gardner’s price tag is going to be a high one.

ESPN’s Rich Cimini recently shared what Gardner is seeking.

“Gardner has professed his desire to stay with the Jets long-term,” Cimini wrote this week. “The Texans’ Derek Stingley Jr. raised the ceiling with his three-year, $90 million extension. Gardner is thought to be seeking at least that much.”

The Jets seem likely to want to get the deal done, too.

“Gardner was an All-Pro in each of his first two seasons, but his play tailed off last season, as it did for many of the Jets’ defenders,” Cimini wrote. “Nevertheless, he’s still regarded as one of the top corners, an essential position in coach Aaron Glenn’s man-heavy scheme.”

It’s hard to replace all-world cornerbacks.

It could be a bit tricky for the Jets given Gardner’s relative struggles in 2024. But if they wait and he performs even better, his price might rise.

There’s always risk in the NFL with injuries and quick swings in effectiveness, but generally, you’ve got to lock up your stars while you’ve got them.

Sauce is a star, and the Jets should give him the bag he’s looking for.
