Dolphins trade proposal sends million veteran to 4-win NFL bottom feeder with positional need

The Miami Dolphins aren’t positioned to have a particularly strong season, especially when it comes to retaining veteran players. This is largely due to the team’s ongoing salary cap issues. At some point during the season, several of the most recognizable names on the roster may be on their way out of Miami because of cap constraints.

Jalen Ramsey is expected to be traded at some point during the offseason. While both sides have been trying to find a trade partner, there hasn’t been any progress so far.

“Quite honestly, zero has changed since the last time I said anything about him,” head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters Wednesday, per Chris Perkins of the South Florida Sun Sentinel. “I’m very much interested in the players that I’m coaching on the field today.”

The lack of movement in trade talks could be due to Miami’s unwillingness to cover a portion of Ramsey’s guaranteed money.

“The Dolphins appear unwilling to take on any of Jalen Ramsey’s guaranteed money to facilitate a trade. Teams are very interested in trading for Ramsey, but don’t want to take on his full contract. This is the current hold up,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported.

Ramsey has received some backlash from Dolphins fans, prompting him to reaffirm his love for the city. He wanted to make it clear before a trade that there’s no bad blood on his end.

According to CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin, Ramsey could end up on a team in the AFC West.

“He might soon get his wish of a clean slate, as Miami can save close to $10 million by trading the cornerback after June 1 as opposed to losing $8.5 million by dealing the former Los Angeles Rams star prior to June 1. All signs point to Ramsey playing elsewhere in 2025. Prediction: Traded to Raiders,” Benjamin wrote.

The Raiders won just four games last season, and their cornerback room could use an upgrade. Acquiring Ramsey would be a major boost to the defense and provide them with a proven veteran presence, especially when they have a lack of depth at the position.
