Packers’ million superstar focused on improving the ‘little things’ to become elite

The Green Bay Packers are heading into a season focused on defensive growth—especially with veteran cornerback Jaire Alexander’s future still uncertain. Alexander has been the biggest question mark entering the offseason, as both sides continue to work toward a mutually beneficial deal. However, many believe he may return on a reduced contract.

“The question, to me, comes down to money,” Sports Illustrated’s Breer wrote. “He’s due $17.5 million this year. And, because of his recent injury history, that’s shown to be a bit rich for interested teams. Alexander, meanwhile, would rather be cut so he can pick his destination… I would think, at this point, the most likely scenario is that he’s back on a reduced contract.”

Alexander has yet to report to any practices or workouts, but that isn’t necessarily a bad sign.

“Alexander has not reported to the Packers’ voluntary workouts, which would raise red flags over his status with the team. While speculation has run wild, passing game coordinator Derrick Ansley sang a different tune, telling ESPN’s Rob Demovsky that he’s been in contact with Alexander every day while skipping the offseason workouts,” Dairyland Express’ Chris Schad wrote.

While Alexander’s status remains uncertain, running back Josh Jacobs is preparing for his second season in Green Bay. Jacobs posted an impressive 15 rushing touchdowns and 1,329 yards on the ground last season. This offseason, he’s focused on taking his game to the next level.

“It was a few plays where I had some 1-on-1s, where if I made a person miss or broke that tackle, it was the difference between a 20-yard gain and a 60-yard gain. Those little things like that, those make people elite. So that’s what I’m trying to come into the offseason and work on,” Jacobs said.

Jacobs is already a standout running back, but if he sharpens those finer details, his explosive production could reach new heights. This offseason, for him, is all about mastering the small things.
