Falcons’ Raheem Morris’ strong bond with Dolphins million trade bait could prompt reunion

The Atlanta Falcons are mostly set on the offensive side of the ball heading into the upcoming season, especially with all the young talent the team has assembled. However, the defense remains a major concern. There are still too many question marks across the field, and nothing is firmly established in terms of who will step up and produce.

To address one of their biggest weaknesses from last season, Atlanta drafted two defensive linemen in the first round of the NFL Draft. The team has long struggled to generate a consistent pass rush, which was the motivation behind those picks.

“Raheem Morris says he was tired of getting grilled for the lack of a pass rush for the Falcons, and they were intentional about fixing that this offseason,” Falcons staff writer Will McFadden wrote. “That’s got to change, and the only way to change that is to change that.”

In addition to bolstering the defensive line, the Falcons could be looking to add another experienced cornerback to pair with AJ Terrell. Jalen Ramsey has been seeking a trade since the beginning of the offseason, and the cost for the Dolphins to move him would be lower if they wait until after June 1.

Miami head coach Mike McDaniel recently addressed the situation, though he didn’t offer much clarity.

“Quite honestly, zero has changed since the last time I said anything about him,” McDaniel told reporters Wednesday, per Chris Perkins of the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

NFL Network’s Steve Wyche didn’t rule out a possible deal between the Falcons and Dolphins, especially given Ramsey’s past connection to Falcons head coach Raheem Morris, who was formerly his defensive coordinator.

“Jalen Ramsey’s relationship with Raheem Morris ‘as strong as it could possibly get’; won’t rule out Falcons trade,” Wyche said.

Wyche also noted that if a deal were to happen, it would likely be a short-term arrangement. Still, the Falcons could end up with a lockdown duo at cornerback in Ramsey and Terrell—a tandem that would make life difficult for opposing wide receivers.
