Von Miller return to Broncos may have gotten conclusive update

Broncos Country would likely love to see Von Miller throw on the No. 58 orange and blue jersey for one more season and finish his career with the Denver Broncos, the team that selected him in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

Earlier this offseason, his comments during this appearance on “Up and Adams” had many fans hoping that would happen. However, on Wednesday, Miller may have shot that idea down for good.

Miller pointed to Nik Bonitto and Jonathon Cooper, the team’s starting outside linebackers, as reasons why it “wouldn’t make sense” for the team to sign him this offseason and noted that he won’t be playing special teams at 36 years old.

He has a point about special teams as just about any reserve player needs to be able to do that. However, a good argument could still be made that Miller would be a terrific rotational pass-rusher behind Bonitto and Cooper as the team has just Jonah Elliss, Dondrea Tillman, Que Robinson, Andrew Farmer and Johnny Walker Jr. behind them. Though there is a ton of promise in that group, there isn’t a lot of experience and there is a lack of on-field results.

Miller is arguably the best defensive player in Broncos history. He is the franchise’s all-time leader in sacks and despite being 36, can still get to the quarterback at a high rate. He had six sacks for the Buffalo Bills last season despite playing on just 25 percent of the team’s defensive snaps.

Miller finishing up in Denver would just feel right. He still speaks highly of the team, often refers to the Broncos with “we” when discussing them and has always been proud of the team he spent 10 and a half seasons with. You can still catch him speaking to the Broncos media and it still feels like he’s part of the Broncos any time it does.

It would be a great way for him to finish his legendary career, which will end in Canton at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but if Miller doesn’t see a road back to Denver, there’s a strong chance there won’t be one.
