The New York Giants are counting on Russell Wilson.
Wilson is meant to serve as the bridge in New York, a strong veteran quarterback presence to hold down the fort until first-rounder Jaxson Dart is ready.
But former NFL quarterback, Chris Simms, questions whether Wilson can be that guy.
Simms played for multiple teams in a journeyman NFL career. He’s the son of 14-year Giants QB Phil Simms.
“I know this: his ability to lead and talk to the players, it falls on deaf ears,” Chris Simms said on his own show. “I told you, not only was I hearing it from people that I trust in Pittsburgh, but you could watch TV and see it, where he’d be talking to the guys on the sidelines, and they’d literally be trying to look in the opposite direction he was talking.”

Falling on deaf ears, looking in the opposite direction, oof. Those don’t sound good.
It’s just one guy’s thoughts, but there have been whispers throughout Wilson’s career that he may be a bit of an unconventional leader, to say the least.
Russ enters a shaky situation with the Giants. The coaching staff might be worried about their jobs. There’s a rookie looming. Even veteran backup Jameis Winston could probably make a case for playing time.
How will Wilson handle it all? If these comments are any indication, it could be a long, awkward season for the Giants.
