Former 8 million Eagles QB could sign with Saints after Derek Carr news

It’s been unfortunate to see how former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz’s career has gone. When Wentz was healthy for the Eagles, he looked to be one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL.

Unfortunately, the injuries caught up to him, and he’s been a backup nearly every year since, outside of the 2021 season with the Indianapolis Colts.

Wentz isn’t the same quarterback he once was, but it’s interesting that he doesn’t have a starting job for a below-average team.

The last time Wentz was a full-time starter, he threw for 3,563 yards, 27 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Sure, his eight-game stint with the Washington Commanders didn’t go as planned, throwing nine interceptions, but that was the last chance he got to be a starting quarterback.

However, there could be a scenario where he has another job waiting for him with the New Orleans Saints, including Moe Moton of Bleacher Report, who linked the two sides on Saturday morning.

“In seven contests (six starts) as a rookie last season, Spencer Rattler threw for 1,317 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions, completing 57 percent of his passes. He’s the most experienced starter in the Saints’ quarterback room.

“Perhaps rookie second-rounder Tyler Shough, Jake Haener and Rattler bring out the best in one another in a training camp battle. Still, the Saints should add veteran competition to challenge the young candidates. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Haener is dealing with an oblique injury. Wentz can push the young talent at the position. He could also provide a spark in the passing game with his big arm and ability to extend plays,” he wrote.

With the Saints’ quarterback situation after Derek Carr announced his retirement, taking a chance on the former second overall pick of the 2016 NFL draft wouldn’t hurt.

Wentz has been part of some winning organizations, most recently playing for the Kansas City Chiefs. With his ability to teach guys in the locker room and be a veteran presence, he might be what the Saints need to turn things around.
