Tom Brady could come out of retirement again after latest NFL decision

The National Football League recently announced that NFL players will be eligible to play in the 2028 Summer Olympics. Could former New England Patriots legend Tom Brady consider lacing up his cleats again?

NFL owners reached a unanimous decision to pass a resolution that would allow NFL players to compete in flag football at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. A maximum of one player from each team is eligible to compete, and each team’s international player is allowed to play for their country, according to NFL.com’s Grant Gordon.

While Brady is retired, flag football could give him the opportunity to return to the game in a new form. Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon suggested that Brady could consider representing the United States in the Olympics. He will be 50 at the time of the 2028 Summer Olympics.

“Yeah, 50 is pushing it in any sport, but Brady has famously taken great care of himself and was an effective NFL starter just a couple years ago,” wrote Gagnon. “In this case, he’s only a sub who could work as a tremendous ambassador, and it would be fun to see him step in for a game or two.”

Even if Brady is not the starting quarterback, seeing him on the field co go a long way in growing the game. Many NFL players have already noted they are interested in playing for the United States, but seeing Brady on the field would be great for the game.

“I think this news represents a great opportunity for the sport, for the NFL,” Commissioner Roger Goodell told reporters after the vote. “It’s truly the next step in making NFL football and football a global sport for men and women of all ages and all opportunities across the globe. We think that’s the right thing to do, and this is a big step in accomplishing that.”

There may be no better ambassador for the game on a global stage than Brady. His career spanned 23 years and is regarded as the greatest player of all time. 20 of those seasons came with the Patriots, where he won six Super Bowls. Brady is a three-time MVP and 15-time Pro Bowler. He is the all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns. The roster for the United States will be put together by the National Olympic Committee, but if Brady makes himself available, it would be tough to deny him.
