Cowboys could reunite with $37 million 5-time Pro Bowler to round out roster

Cowboys could reunite with million 5-time Pro Bowler to round out roster

The Dallas Cowboys made a big splash by trading for George Pickens. However, they could look to add one more receiver for Dak Prescott before the season starts.

Before the Cowboys traded for Pickens, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Nick Harris revealed that the Cowboys were showing interest in signing Amari Cooper. The Cowboys traded Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns before the 2022 season. However, he is now a free agent after the Browns traded him to the Buffalo Bills last season.

The Cowboys’ need for a receiver is less dire now that they have Pickens. However, Cooper as a third receiver could be great for the Cowboys’ offense. ClutchPoints’ Enjo Flojo tabbed the Cowboys as a landing spot for Cooper while he searches for a new team.

“Jonathan Mingo and Jalen Tolbert offer promise but have yet to prove they can deliver consistently,” wrote Flojo. “Cooper could come in as a WR3 behind Lamb and new acquisition George Pickens. Cooper would push young players in training camp while providing a reliable, veteran presence on the outside. Jerry Jones has never been shy about bringing back former players, especially ones with star power. Cooper’s low-profile professionalism fits well with what Dallas needs.”

The Cowboys did not draft a receiver this year, but ended up with Pickens. The Cowboys have plenty of ground to make up in the NFC East with the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders both reaching the NFC Championship. Cooper may be a more reliable third receiver than Tolbert or Mingo.

Cooper had 3,893 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns with the Cowboys. He is a five-time Pro Bowler, with his last selection coming in 2023. Spotrac projects him to sign a two-year, $37 million deal. He could end up signing for cheaper this late in the offseason.
