This one surprising factor determined game 1 of the Western Conference Finals

The power play is often the difference between winning and losing games.

That was the case in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals, with the Stars rallying to beat the Edmonton Oilers to open the series.

The Stars showed they have plenty of punch to kick off the series, scoring six goals and running away with the game late.

“Maybe not at the level of Connor and Leon, but I think we’ve got a lot of guys that can do damage,” Matt Duchene said before the game. “We’re built to basically be three lines (that are) basically first lines, and our fourth line is more like a third. It’s a really deep roster. That top-end skill of Connor and Leon is tough to match, but at the same time, we can do it by committee and with the talent we have. You look at the numbers guys here put up, and it’s nothing to bat eyelashes at. So we’re not concerned about that, we know we can score and produce as much as any team in this league.”

“It’s super important,” Wyatt Johnston said of the power play before the game. “It can decide games, decide series. So obviously we want our special teams to be great in this series.”

The tightest of margins often determine games and series, it’ll be interesting to see how both teams adjust going forward.
