How Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie got into heated debate with Troy Vincent, Jed York over ‘Tush Push’ vote

The Eagles were successfully able to prevent the league from banning the “Tush Push” on Wednesday, as the Packers’ proposal to get rid of the play fell two votes short.

During the meetings in Minnesota, multiple Eagles representatives spoke to defend the play, including owner Jeffrey Lurie and former center Jason Kelce. The pair reportedly spoke for almost an hour, with Kelce arguing why the play was safe amid suggestions that it was harmful to player safety.

However, it was Lurie who was more passionate in his defense, as the Eagles owner represented his team against his fellow owners. During the meeting, Lurie reportedly gave a tense speech about the “Tush Push” while he believed that it was likely the play would be banned.

Here’s what Lurie said during the meetings that caught the NFL’s attention.

What did Jeffrey Lurie say about the ‘Tush Push?’

In the general session of the meetings, Lurie spoke to other owners and league executives to keep the “Tush Push” from getting banned. As part of the speech, Lurie criticized NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and executive Troy Vincent for supporting the ban.

However, Lurie’s most explosive comments came with a crude analogy.

Near the end of the speech, according to ESPN’s Seth Wickersham, Lurie described the situation as a “win-win” for the Eagles, as he said it was “like a wet dream for a teenage boy” for the team to be so successful at a singular play that the rest of the league wanted it banned.

After Lurie made that comment, an NFL executive reportedly criticized Lurie’s use of the analogy during his speech. Additionally, as Lurie continued his long speech, 49ers owner Jed York asked him “how much more s—” he had left to say.

Once Lurie finished his speech, Eagles assistant general manager John Ferrari and former center Jason Kelce both spoke in favor of the play, as well. In the end, the Eagles’ speeches were enough to keep the proposal two votes shy of passing, allowing the “Tush Push” to survive for another year.
