Seahawks could bolster tackle depth by signing $19 million Browns bust

Seahawks could bolster tackle depth by signing million Browns bust

The Seattle Seahawks had one of the worst offensive lines in football last year, as the unit finished with the eight-worst block win rate (62.09%) while allowing their quarterback to be pressured at the seventh-highest rate in the league (37.4% of his dropbacks).

Entering this offseason, everyone knew that Seattle needed to address the group with 2022 first-round pick Charles Cross the only one whose job was guaranteed for the 2025 season.

However, Seattle was quiet in free agency, losing Laken Tomlinson to the Houston Texans and Stone Forsythe to the New York Giants while George Fant and Jason Peters, who both finished last year with the Seahawks, are still unsigned.

The Seahawks only addition were guard Josh Jones, who played 4.1% of the offensive snaps for the Baltimore Ravens last season, and first-round pick Grey Zabel, who is making the difficult jump from FCS North Dakota State to the NFL.

While there aren’t many intriguing options left on the market at this point in the offseason, former first-round pick Jedrick Wills is still available, and NFL Trade Rumors’ Ethan Woodie recently listed the Seahawks as a team to watch for the offensive tackle’s services.

Wills, 26, played his college ball at Alabama from 2017-19, earning All-SEC and All-American honors in his final season with the Crimson Tide.

The Browns took Wills in the first-round (No. 10 overall) of the 2020 NFL draft and made him their starting left tackle as a rookie. Unfortunately, he never lived up to expectations, and after missing nine weeks due to an MCL injury in 2023, he played in just five games in 2024.

Wills’ performance in his five games (four starts) last year earned him a 52.9 overall grade from Pro Football Focus, ranking him 108th out of 140 qualified tackles. He also received a 63.6 pass-blocking grade (75th) and a 51.6 run-blocking grade (113th).

In Seattle, Wills would likely have to flip to right tackle for the first time in his professional career to compete for a starting spot. However, he could be a decent depth option for the Seahawks in case Cross ever went down, and considering he’s still unsigned, it wouldn’t break the bank to sign him.
