Raiders predicted to cut ties with recent draft pick before regular season

The Las Vegas Raiders had one of the worst offenses in the league last season, and while the passing attack got a lot of attention, the running game was even worse.

Las Vegas averaged 79.8 yards on the ground per game in 2024, which was the worst rate in the league last year by 12 yards per game (the New York Jets averaged 91.8).

This offseason, the Raiders made massive changes to their running back room, allowing Alexander Mattison to leave for a new deal with the Miami Dolphins while Ameer Abdullah, who finished the year with Las Vegas, is still unsigned in free agency.

New Raiders general manager John Spytek signed former Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert to a one-year, $1.6 million deal this offseason and used Las Vegas’ first-round pick on Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty, who was the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy in 2024.

If Spytek and new head coach Pete Carroll are comfortable with Jeanty and Mostert as their top two backs in 2025, they may be willing to move on from another depth piece at the position. In fact, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox recently identified running back Zamir White as the best player that Las Vegas could still move on from before the year starts.

White, 25, spent four seasons at Georgia from 2018-21, winning a national championship and rushing for 2,043 yards and 25 touchdowns on 5.3 yards per carry in 38 games.

The Raiders took White in the fourth round (No. 122 overall) of the 2022 NFL draft and used him sparingly as a rookie before making him Josh Jacobs’ primary backup in 2023.

This past season, White was limited to just eight games due to a quadriceps injury. He finished with the third-most attempts on the team, behind Mattison and Abdullah, as he ran for 183 yards and a touchdown on an abysmal 2.8 yards per attempt.

While White looked solid in his first two seasons (521 yards and a touchdown on 4.3 yards per rush), he hasn’t done much to guarantee a spot in Las Vegas’ running back room for the 2025 season. He may have to compete with Sincere McCormick, Dylan Laube and Chris Collier for one of the final spots on the depth chart.
