Bengals’ Trey Hendrickson makes shocking million decision amid contract extension holdout

Trey Hendrickson is trying to get what he thinks he deserves.

The Cincinnati Bengals clearly don’t think Hendrickson deserves whatever amount he feels is right, though.

And on Saturday, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported on what the Bengals have offered.

Hendrickson, per Florio, turned down a deal worth $28 million per year. And now, he’s stuck.

He’s due to make $16 million this season, so that would’ve been a substantial raise.

No, it’s not Myles Garrett or Maxx Crosby or Nick Bosa money. And that’s likely the holdup.

Hendrickson probably is seeking a deal in the $35 million per year range, right around Bosa.

But if an agreement isn’t reached, Hendrickson can play out this year for the $16 million and then is at risk of being franchised tagged next offseason.

His past play deserves a payday, given his 17.5 sacks each of the next two seasons.

But with Hendrickson officially heading toward the downslope of post-30 in age, his play could start to decline, too.

The Bengals probably don’t want to lock him up long term for too much money, just in case decline happens quickly.

In the meantime, the two sides will continue their stand-off, neither much closer to figuring out their differences.
