Steelers pursuing blockbuster trade that would replace George Pickens

Steelers pursuing blockbuster trade that would replace George Pickens

If a new rumor is true, it would appear the Pittsburgh Steelers aren’t as high on their current group of wide receivers in the wake of the George Pickens trade as general manager Omar Khan let on.

According to Adam Crowley of 93.7 The Fan, the Steelers and New Orleans Saints are working on a blockbuster trade that would send wide receiver Chris Olave to Pittsburgh.

To be very clear, the trade is not done, or even guaranteed to be done. Nevertheless, it’s something to keep an eye on.

Olave would be a massive get for the Steelers, especially after they set themselves back to square one following the Pickens trade, which leaves DK Metcalf and not much else in Pittsburgh’s wide receivers room.

Despite having lackluster quarterback situations during his career, Olave has broken the 1,000-yard mark twice over three seasons, including a career-best 1,123 yards during the 2023 campaign. He would be a fantastic complement to Metcalf.

The concern with Olave, however, is that he’s sustained multiple concussions over his three years in the NFL, which puts some doubt into his future.

That said, considering the precarious situation the Steelers are in, they can’t be too picky, especially with a talented 24-year-old wide receiver who is under contract through 2026 and is still cheap.

In the wake of the Pickens trade, Khan expressed confidence in the group the team has already, but it’s not much different than what the Steelers had in 2024. The group simply isn’t good enough for a Steelers team looking to compete in 2025.

It remains to be seen what the Steelers will have to give up, but we’d assume it would cost a third-round pick to bring Olave aboard.

Luckily, the Steelers are projected to have three next year.
