“Over the Hill?” Jake Paul Claims He’d Beat Washed-Up Canelo Alvarez, Cites Punch Stats from Tyson Fight

“Over the Hill?” Jake Paul Claims He’d Beat Washed-Up Canelo Alvarez, Cites Punch Stats from Tyson Fight

Jake Paul says Canelo Alvarez is “over the hill” and he would have beaten him if they had fought on May 3rd. Cruiserweight Jake notes that he threw more shots in his eight two-minute round fight against Mike Tyson on November 15th last year than Canelo did in his 12-round fight against William Scull.

Crawford Looked Shot Too

Paul feels that’s a signal that Canelo is washed. That’s a fair assumption. Canelo looked 100% shot, as did Terence Crawford in his last fight against Israil Madrimov. They were shells of their former selves.

Paul and Canelo were in negotiations last February for a clash on May 3rd. However, when Turki Alalshikh signed Alvarez to a four-fight deal, he matched him against William Scull on that date. Turki preferred that Canelo fight “real fighters.” Turki would have been better off if he had let Canelo fight Paul rather than Scull because it would have been entertaining.

“I threw more punches in eight two-minute rounds than he did in a 12-round fight [against William Scull],” said Jake Paul to the media today during his press conference with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at the Avalon Hollywood Theater in Los Angeles to promote their June 28th fight on DAZN.

Canelo fought like he had done no cardio training for the fight, and was too tired to throw more than a few shots in each round. He threw only 152 punches in the entire fight.

“1000%, without a doubt. I would have beat Canelo. This is what I’ve been saying. He’s over the hill. Oh, for sure,” said Jake when asked if his fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will be more entertaining than the Canelo vs. Terence Crawford fight on September 13th.

Did Turki Make the Right Call?

Perhaps Turki made the right move by not letting Canelo fight Paul, because if he’d lost to him, it would have been impossible to put him in the “big fight” against Crawford after that defeat. Alvarez would have been useless.

“Obviously, Crawford is a great fighter. Canelo is a great fighter, but I just think this has more hype about it. We just saw them come off some boring a** fights, and they’re probably just going to sit there and dance around for 12 rounds,” said Paul about the Canelo vs. Crawford clash.

Jake is right again. Canelo-Crawford is going to be boring because neither fighter has anything left, and they’re likely only fighting for the money. They’re so old and not entertaining to watch.

Paul says the Canelo fight “has to happen for the betterment of the sport of boxing.”
