The Red Wings are set to face off against the Rangers on Thursday night.
Detroit were unable to rally on the road, falling 4-1 to New York at Madison Square Garden on Monday. In his first start of the season, Detroit goaltender Alex Lyon stopped 24 shots, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win.
Meanwhile, New York’s netminder Igor Shesterkin turned aside 31 shots, helping his team improve to 2-0-1 (5 points). Detroit, now 1-2-0 (2 points), couldn’t find the spark to initiate a comeback.
The Rangers stumbled in their home opener against the Utah Hockey Club in an odd game on Saturday but quickly rebounded with a convincing 4-1 victory over Detroit on Monday.
Now, as they prepare to head back on the road, the Rangers aim to build on that momentum in a home-and-home against Detroit this Thursday.
