With the Green Bay Packers investing two draft picks in wide receivers last month — including a first-round selection — some began to wonder whether that signaled a shift in the team’s plans at the position. But if there were any questions surrounding Jayden Reed’s role, the front office made sure to clear them up quickly.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst met with Reed’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, last week to clarify his client’s standing with the team following the additions of rookies Matthew Golden and Savion Williams.
“The team said it will not affect Reed’s status as its top receiver,” Schefter reported.

Reed, 25, is entering his third NFL season after being selected by Green Bay in the second round of the 2023 draft. Shortly after, he signed a four-year, $7.1 million deal out of Michigan State. Despite the Packers being loaded with young talent across the offense, Reed has quickly emerged as one of the league’s most productive young wideouts.
He’s led the team in both receptions and receiving yards in back-to-back years, totaling 119 catches for 1,650 yards and 14 touchdowns. Even as Green Bay continues to reshape its receiver room around quarterback Jordan Love, Reed has remained a steady presence and consistent playmaker.

The decision to draft Golden and Williams was viewed as a move to strengthen depth and create competition — not dethrone Reed. Golden brings high-end speed and YAC ability, while Williams adds size and toughness on the perimeter. But for now, Reed’s role as WR1 is secure.
By addressing the situation directly with Rosenhaus, the Packers showed a clear vote of confidence in their young star. Entering Year 3, Reed isn’t just part of the plan — he’s still leading it.
