Broncos cut ties with 8-year NFL veteran before he even got a chance

The Denver Broncos are on a bit of a changing-their-mind roll lately.

Just days after opting not to bring in Desmond Ridder to rookie minicamp after planning to do just that, they cut another player who never actually appeared in their uniform.

This time, it was eight-year NFL veteran punter Matt Haack.

The Broncos signed Haack on March 19 to replace Riley Dixon.

Haack has played 103 NFL games, putting 37.3 percent of his punts inside the 20-yard line.

Denver changed its plans on the final day of the NFL Draft.

That’s when they took Florida punter Jeremy Crenshaw in the sixth round.

“My job is not to worry about anything else outside of doing what I can for the team and helping the team win games by punting well,” Crenshaw told reporters on Saturday.

Haack is as close to a dual-threat punter as you’ll find in the NFL.

In 2019, he threw for a touchdown for the Dolphins. That same season, he ran for a first down.

Since four years with the Dolphins, Haack has had one-year stints with the Bills, Colts, Browns and Giants.

Now, Denver has gone in a different direction and Haack is looking for a new home.
