WBO World Junior Lightweight champion Emanuel ‘Vaquero’ Navarrate (40-2-1, 32 KOs) won an eight round technical decision over Charley Suarez (18-1, 10 KOs) on Saturday night at the Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California. The ring physician stopped the fight one second into round eight due to a cut that Navarrete had suffered over his left eye from a headbutt in round six. The time of the stoppage was at 00:1 of round eight.

In the first round, Navarrate, who took six times to make weight, outlanded Suarez, who ended the round with a bloody mouth. Navarrate had Suarez in trouble with a flurry of punches in the fourth round’s final minute.
In the fifth round, Navarrate landed numerous uppercuts on Suarez’s chin. In the sixth round, Navarrate received a nasty cut over his left eyebrow due to an accidental clash of heads, causing blood to cover his face for the entire round. Navarrate kept wiping the cut the whole round. He had Suarez in trouble at the end of the round.
In the seventh round, Suarez outworked Navarrate with mostly punches to the cut. Referee Edward Collantes called in the ring physician to check the cut after the round, informing the Referee to call a halt. They went to the scorecards 78-75, 77-76 twice in favor of Navarrate, ruling the stoppage 00:1 of the eighth round a technical decision.
In the co-main event, NABF and WBO NABO Lightweight champ Reay ‘Danger’ Muratalla, 23-0 (17) defeated WBO No. 2 contender Zaur Abdullaev, 20-2 (12), by a 12-round unanimous decision to win the interim IBF lightweight title.
In the second round Muratalla landed a right on the chin of Abdullaev stunning him in the first minute. In the third round, Abdullaev outlanded Muratalla, though there were few punches landed by either boxer.
From the seventh through the ninth rounds, Muratalla outworked Abdullaev. Muratalla jabbed his way to win both in the tenth and eleventh rounds. In the twelfth and final round, Muratalla turned southpaw and outlanded Abdullaev. Abdullaev’s face looked like he walked into a fan at the end.
Scores 118-110, 119-109, and 119-109. The referee was Thomas Taylor.
Super featherweight Andres Cortes, 23-0 (12), easily beat Salvadore ‘Salvi’ Jimenez, 14-2-1 (6), by a boring 10-round unanimous decision.
In the first four rounds, it was all Cortes with little offense from Jimenez, who fought out of a shell, allowing Cortes to go to the body with left hooks.
In the sixth round, Jimenez finally started throwing punches, though not enough to win his first round. In the ninth round, Cortés continued winning another round. In the tenth and final round, it was all Cortes while Jimenez landed the final punch and started celebrating like he won the fight, let alone a round.
The scores were 99-91 and 100-90, 100-90. Ray Corona was the referee.
Welterweight southpaw ‘Gallo de Oro’ Giovani Santillan, 34-1 (18), defeated Angel Beltran, 18-3 (11), by a narrow 10-round unanimous decision.
In the first 4 rounds, it was all Beltran who had Santillan’s nose bleeding from the third round. In the fifth round, Santillan finally did enough to outland Beltran.
In the final minute of the sixth round, Santillan landed half a dozen lefts to Beltran’s chin. In the seventh and eighth rounds, Beltran had Santillan backing up for the most part.
In the ninth round, Beltran again took another round with his hand speed for the most part. In the tenth and final round, under a minute, a low blow from Santillan dropped Beltran. It was a close round in a close fight. The scores were 97-93, 97-93, and 97-93. The referee was Thomas Taylor.
Super bantamweight Sebastian ‘Logan’ Hernandez, 20-0 (18), beat Azat ‘Crazy A’ Hovhannisyan, 21-6 (17), by a 10-round unanimous decision.
In the first three rounds, Hernandez had an edge for two rounds, and then Hovhannisyan took the third, turning southpaw. In the fourth round, Hovhannisyan countered with a body attack when pressed by Hernandez.
In the fifth and sixth rounds, Hernandez used a vicious body attack to hurt and back up Hovhannisyan. In the seventh round, Hernandez had Hovhannisyan against the ropes, looking to end the fight, when Hovhannisyan came back in the final seconds with a flurry of punches.
In the eighth round, once again, Hernandez had Hovhannisyan against the ropes with little return. Hovhannisyan did enough to get through the round. In the ninth round, Hernandez was having his way mostly when Referee David Solivan took a point from Hovhannisyan for holding.
In the tenth and final round, Hernandez was winning going to the body when Hovhannisyan came back and did enough to take the round. The judge’s scores were 98-91, 98-91, and 98-91.
Lightweight Alan ‘Kid Kansas’ Garcia, 16-1 (11), defeated Cristian ‘Vikingo’ Medina, 8-3-1 (5), by an eight-round unanimous decision.
In the second round, a right uppercut from Medina in the final minute had Garcia holding on when Medina flipped him to the canvas. In the third round, Garcia came out southpaw, then turned back to orthodox, and put on an attack against Medina, having a good round.
In the fifth round, Garcia was having his way until the final half-minute, when Medina landed an uppercut, which injured Garcia at the bell.
In the seventh round, Medina landed a right uppercut, opening a flood of blood from the nose of Garcia halfway through the round. In the eighth and final round, it was all Garcia who, in the final seconds, had Medina’s left eyebrow cut with blood flowing down the side of his face at the bell.
The scores were 79-73, 79-73, and 79-73. The referee was Edward Collantes.
Super flyweight Perla Bazaldua, 2-0 (1), easily beat southpaw Mona Ward, 0-2), by a four-round unanimous decision.
In the first round, Bazaldua had her way with Ward, dropping her head in the final seconds, forcing Bazaldua to the canvas. In the second and third rounds, it was all Bazaldua. In the fourth and final round, Bazaldua completed winning another round. The judges’ scores were 40-36, 40-36, and 40-36. Chris Leben was the referee.
