The Chicago Bears don’t have a bad roster by any means, but they could use more star talent.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Bears are hoping quarterback Caleb Williams can take the next step to becoming a superstar in 2025. He’s joined there by talented receivers D.J. Moore and Rome Odunze, and that whole group could elevate itself.
On defense, it’s a different story. The Bears sent two players to the Pro Bowl this season (cornerback Jaylon Johnson and edge-rusher Montez Sweat), but neither stands out as the face of the defense on a national scale.
Could the answer be to trade for another star corner to pair with Johnson? There happens to be a seven-time Pro Bowler readily available to acquire.
On Tuesday, Athlon’s Matthew Sullivan proposed a hypothetical trade that would send Miami Dolphins corner Jalen Ramsey to the Bears, along with their fourth-round pick, for the Bears’ third-round pick in the upcoming draft (pick number 116 vs. 72).
“The Bears need to add another boundary cornerback, and Ramsey would be a huge get for the Bears as they look to try and make the playoffs in a tough NFC North,” Sullivan wrote.

“Meanwhile, the Dolphins would (land) a key top-100 pick. Many draft experts view the 2025 NFL Draft as a starter’s draft, with a ton of talent in rounds two and three. The Dolphins adding another pick inside the top 100 is well worth the trade of Ramsey.”
Ramsey, 30, is expensive, and he’s on what could be a one-year contract. His $72.3 million extension with Miami will pay him $25.1 million this year before a potential out in 2026 that would carry an $18.4 million dead cap hit.
But Ramsey is also one of the best defensive backs of the last decade, and he’s never allowed a passer rating of 90 or better in coverage during his nine NFL seasons. He’d be a valuable veteran leader in the Chicago clubhouse, and if a pick swap is all it takes, the Bears should strongly consider the move.
