Latest Deshaun Watson update will have all Browns fans smiling

There isn’t a scenario where the Cleveland Browns should ever let Deshaun Watson play a game for them again.

Even if the team struggles next year, and he returns at the end of the season, why continue to give him a chance?

All Watson has done throughout his Browns career is prove that he isn’t the guy, and for a team that needs to find a long-term quarterback option, the 29-year-old has shown he isn’t it.

With Joe Flacco returning, too, there’s a scenario where it wouldn’t even make sense to have Watson on the roster, but cutting him would bring many challenges to the Browns’ already brutal cap situation.

However, the Flacco saga is an interesting one for the Browns, and according to a recent report, could be a sign that the team is completely done with Watson.

“For what it’s worth, Flacco’s popularity in the locker room and performance under Kevin Stefanski in 2023 was a big factor in the team walking away from him last year. The Browns felt like they had to clear the decks to give Watson the best chance. So Flacco’s return is further confirmation of what we already know,” Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated wrote.

“If Watson’s going to revive his career, it will have to happen on different terms than he’s been used to. He’ll have to work his way up the depth chart without a recruiting ranking or his draft position buoying his candidacy.”

Let’s disregard his play, which hasn’t seen the former Houston Texans standout throw for more than 1,148 yards in a season, or more than seven touchdowns in any of his three seasons.

Worse than that, Watson has dealt with off-the-field issues, and the team finally admitted that he’s been nothing they were hoping he’d be.

He should’ve played his last game in a Browns uniform when he injured his Achilles last season. It looks like that might finally be the case.
