Cowboys predicted to take Texas wide receiver first round in mock draft consensus

As the NFL draft gets closer, many mock draft experts are aligning on one key target for the Cowboys in the first round.

Dallas has wide variety of positional needs like running back, cornerback, offensive guard, and defensive tackle.

But it’s a wide receiver to pair with CeeDee Lamb that’s arguably the Cowboys’ best use of resources in the first round.

Over the last week, mock drafts from four different respected analysts have predicted Matthew Golden from University of Texas as the pick for Dallas.

The latest mock pick for the Cowboys by each of the top NFL Draft experts:

– Daniel Jeremiah: Matthew Golden
– Mel Kiper: Matthew Golden
– Dane Brugler: Matthew Golden
– Lance Zierlein: Matthew Golden pic.twitter.com/vGBOP6XwGu

Daniel Jeremiah and Lance Zierlein work for the NFL Network. Dane Brugler works for The Athletic. Mel Kiper has been covering the draft for ESPN since 1984. This is a superstar quartet of NFL insiders and they all have the same player donning the star.

Here’s what Brugler had to say about the pick:

“The Cowboys could go a couple different directions at No. 12: cornerback, defensive back, even Jeanty if he falls. But adding another pass catcher would put points on the board, and Golden’s ability to play inside-outside and create throwing windows would make him a natural complement to CeeDee Lamb.”

Golden had 58 receptions for 987 yards and 9 touchdowns last season at Texas. His speed would provide an immediate threat for a Cowboys offense in need of weapons outside of CeeDee Lamb.

Other wide receivers with first round potential include Tetairoa McMillan out of Arizona, Luther Burden from Missouri, and Emeka Egbuka from Ohio State.

But as draft day draws near, these four well-respected insiders are all aligned on who the Cowboys will take in the first round. Only time will tell if they’re proven right.
