New York Giants predicted to shake up draft, acquire second first-round pick for SEC QB

There are only eight days until the NFL Draft, and the top college football athletes are preparing to hear their names called—determining where they’ll begin their professional careers. Until Tuesday, the first three picks in the draft seemed locked in. But after Travis Hunter’s ultimatum, his draft stock may have just taken a hit.

Throughout his entire career, Hunter has played on both sides of the ball—offensively as a wide receiver and defensively as a cornerback. If a team isn’t on board with that, he just issued them a warning.

“It’s never playing football again,” Hunter said. “Because I’ve been doing it my whole life, and I love being on the football field. I feel like I could dominate on each side of the ball, so I really enjoy doing it.”

Another name gaining attention leading up to the draft is Alabama’s Jalen Milroe. While many have projected him as a second-round pick, his invitation to attend the NFL Draft in person suggests otherwise.

“Milroe was invited to the draft by the NFL to be there in person. And Jalen Milroe said, ‘Yeah, I’ll be there.’ Jalen Milroe is not being mocked as a first-round quarterback anywhere, but someone knows something to invite him to the green room to sit there and watch the draft,” Peter Schrager said.

A recent mock draft  has the New York Giants making a surprising trade with the Buffalo Bills to select Milroe with the 30th pick.

“With veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston now in the building, this could be a perfect scenario to redshirt and develop a raw but explosive and tantalizing talent like Milroe – and working with HC Brian Daboll, who was intrinsic to Josh Allen’s development,” Nate Davis wrote.

This move would represent a long-term strategy for the Giants, giving Milroe time to learn from experienced veterans. Trading up for Milroe would also send a clear message about who they believe could be the future face of the franchise.
