WBC middleweight champion Carlos Adames reacted predictably on social media to promoter Eddie Hearn claiming last Saturday night that Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis will beat “everyone” at 147, 154, and 160.

“Not a TV Series”
Adames (24-1-1, 18 KOs) posted on X, letting his followers know that it’s not like a “TV series” where, after one win, you can beat everybody. Hearn was talking crazy last Saturday after his fighter, IBF welterweight champion Boots Ennis (34-0, 30 KOs), knocked out WBA champ Eimantas Stanionis (15-1, 9 KOs) in the sixth round at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
“Boots is not losing at 147, he’s not losing at 154, he’s not losing at 160. Watch what he does in the next few years; he’s going through all the divisions,” said promoter Eddie Hearn to the media last Saturday night after Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis’s sixth-round TKO win over Eimantas Stanionis.
Hearn concluded from that victory over the unproven Stanionis, who had never beaten any notable opposition in his 15-fight career, that Ennis will be a three-division world champion and #1 pound-for-pound.
How can fans buy into what Hearn is selling when Boots didn’t even want to fight WBC interim 154-lb champion Vergil Ortiz Jr. for a career-high payday on Turki’s February 22nd card in Riyadh? Ennis reportedly turned down big bucks for a fight against Ortiz Jr. for a lowly unification match against Stanionis, who was elevated to his WBA Super Champ status outside of the ring. He was elevated just like Boots with his IBF title.
If Hearn really believes Ennis can beat all the top dogs at 154 and 160, why doesn’t he set up a fight between him and Carlos Adames? That’s a fight that he would likely readily agree if Hearn offered him the right money. Would Adames accept the $1.8 million for a fight against Ennis?
The world is changing. We have a ‘champion’ who’s only brave because of X. Then I read about someone who, after one win, can supposedly beat everyone at 154 and 160 like it’s a TV series. Enough already.
