Conor Benn says he’ll go fight for a world title at welterweight “straight after” he knocks out the money-motivated Chris Eubank Jr. in their headliner in 12 days on April 26th, live on DAZN PPV in London. Benn (23-0, 14 KOs) is ranked #5 WBA with the belt Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis won last Saturday night against Eimantas Stanionis in Atlantic City.
Drawing Power
Although Ennis has talked about wanting to capture the remaining two belts at 147 to become the undisputed champion, he likely wouldn’t turn down a fight against Conor Benn, 28, if they’re mutual promoter Eddie Hearn offers it to him.
It’s a fight that Hearn would go for because it will make big money, and it gives Benn a chance to be viewed as a credible fighter. Fighting Eubank Jr. isn’t enough to accomplish that. Conor needs to fight a relevant fighter like the unbeaten Boots Ennis (34-0, 30 KOs) for him to do that.
The money would be too good for Ennis to pass up. He turned down the tougher, dangerous clash against Vergil Ortiz Jr. where a victory wasn’t guaranteed, but against Benn, he’d likely take the fight in a second.
Benn is moving to middleweight on April 26th to battle the wily old veteran Eubank Jr. (34-3, 25 KOs) at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England. The DAZN PPV prices are $24.99 for the U.S and £21.99 for the U.K.
Eubank’s Payday
“Why are you fighting a welterweight? Eubank says, ‘Why are you fighting a middleweight?’ Because I’m 28. I can achieve a world title. I’ll knock Eubank out and go fight for a world title straight after at 147,” said Conor Benn to Carl Froch’s YouTube channel when asked if he believes Chris Eubank Jr. is fighting solely for money at this stage of his 14-year professional career.
“I’ll go straight back down. Eubank is in line for a world title fight against Janibek. Against Canelo. He chooses to fight a welterweight. It doesn’t make sense apart from financial sense,” said Benn.
