Broncos, Courtland Sutton have good news on current contract situation

Broncos, Courtland Sutton have good news on current contract situation

The Denver Broncos will be entering one of the most anticipated regular seasons in many years in 2025. After reaching the playoffs last year, the Broncos now seem like a team pressing forward toward being a real contender.

But an eye always has to be kept on the future in the NFL and regardless of how this coming season ends up, the Broncos face a tough offseason in terms of in-house free agents. The following key players will all be unrestricted free agents following the season:

Nik Bonitto, Edge
Zach Allen, DL
John Franklin-Myers, DL
Courtland Sutton, WR

Those are just some of the team’s upcoming free agents. It’s reasonable to state that the Broncos won’t be able to pay all of those guys, but they can keep some of them away from free agency by working out an extension before the end of the season.

The team may already be working on that with Sutton, the No. 1 receiver on the roster.

UNDERRATED: Denver #Broncos veteran wide receiver Courtland Sutton is one of the most underrated receivers in the league.

Every year, Sutton consistently puts up great numbers, with everyone overlooking him.

As reported by Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post, the team has already engaged in talks with Sutton’s representation on an extension.

“My team has had a really good conversation with the guys up there in the front office, and I think it’s working in the right direction. Ultimately, you just want to know you’re working in the right direction. I think they see and have seen what I’ve brought to the team.

“I’m open and optimistic about the fact that I’ll be able to be here for the rest of my career”, stated Sutton.

That is huge news for Broncos fans and it comes out even before the draft, signaling the two sides could have a new deal done before training camp opens.

Last season, Sutton skipped some voluntary workouts in hopes of a bump in pay. He was there for all the mandatory team functions and the team ended up giving him a pay raise. Sutton responded by having the best season of his career, catching 81 passes for 1,081 yards and eight touchdowns.

Entering his age-29 season in 2025, Sutton is still the top option in the Broncos’ passing game. How long that stays that way remains to be seen, but he is the perfect player for the team to have as the leader of a young wide receiver group due to his experience. When Sutton arrived in Denver, he had the chance to learn from veterans Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders.

The Broncos will still have some big decisions to make on contracts with players on the defensive side of the ball before next season, but taking care of Sutton now would be a great way to start the summer.
