Chiefs blockbuster trade proposal lands Steelers projected $94 million young star

The Kansas City Chiefs could be in the market for a wide receiver, as the team lost DeAndre Hopkins in free agency this offseason and may want to add another dynamic playmaker for quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Kansas City could spend an early-round pick on a pass-catcher in the draft, but Last Word on Sports’ Anthony Palacios lists the Chiefs as a top landing spot for Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens.

“Pickens is the perfect fit for the Chiefs since they always figure out how to get past the off-field issues and help players become effective. He might not get the spotlight here, but Pickens will likely be open to signing an extension with the Chiefs if it means a legitimate Super Bowl run,” Palacios wrote.

Pickens could be a potential draft-day trade candidate, as the 24-year-old has just one year left on his contract, and the Steelers may be hesitant to give him an extension due to his inconsistent play and behavioral issues.

Additionally, Pittsburgh traded for a new No.1 wide receiver this offseason, acquiring DK Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks. The team also gave Metcalf a four-year contract extension worth $132 million.

If the Steelers decide to move on from Pickens, Kansas City should think about trading for him. Pickens’ talent is undeniable, and pairing him with Mahomes could unlock the next level of his game. The Chiefs could also use some more explosiveness on offense to go along with Xavier Worthy, and Pickens has shown his big-play potential multiple times in Pittsburgh despite subpar quarterback play.

Though Pickens landing in Kansas City with Mahomes and Andy Reid would be electric, we still believe that the young playmaker will remain with the Steelers in 2025. Pittsburgh still lacks depth at receiver, and though he has been frustrating at times, general manager Omar Khan and head coach Mike Tomlin shouldn’t give up on Pickens just yet.
