Shakur Stevenson declined Terence Crawford’s wish for him and Gervonta Davis’ fight to be on the undercard of his mega-clash against Canelo Alvarez in September.

The former three-division world champion Stevenson has been steadily campaigning for a fight against Tank Davis since moving up to the lightweight division in 2023. Frequently telling the media that a fight between him and Tank Davis is the “biggest fight in boxing,” he’s slyly persuading the Baltimore native to face him.
Initially, Shakur used his past world title wins at 130 and 126 to try to weasel a fight against Tank. But after capturing the vacant WBC lightweight belt against Edwin De Los Santos, he’s been pushing the angle of unification as a lure for Tank to fight him. Shakur is slow to understand that Tank doesn’t care about unifying.
Tank wasn’t born yesterday, and he knows what Shakur is doing, trying to fight him to get a big payday before he gets found out by one of the talented fighters in the division.
Stevenson told friend Crawford that he views his hoped-for unification bout against WBA lightweight champion Tank Davis as “the biggest in the sport” and that the PPV buys will be “out of this world.”
WBC lightweight champion Shakur (23-0, 11 KOs) has NEVER sold a pay-per-view in his life, and his marketability is uncertain as the B-side opponent for the ‘Face of Boxing’ Tank Davis in a unification fight.
Social Media Impact
Although Shakur has 308k followers on X, those are not big enough numbers to guarantee a lot of PPV buys for a fight between him and Tank Davis IF they fight. In contrast, Ryan Garcia has 12.2 million followers on Instagram and 1.1M on X. If Tank wants to be involved in the “Biggest” in the sport, he’d be better off targeting a rematch with Kingry rather than using Shakur as his option.
Davis is obviously NOT going to demean himself by agreeing to fight on the Canelo vs. Crawford undercard on September 13th. If Crawford wants help selling his fight on PPV, he’s going to need to look in another direction. I would suggest Terence ask his friend, Keyshawn Davis, but he’s no more popular than Shakur.
